Dear NEG Brothers,
This is a friend I met a few weeks ago named Gunny. As you can see he is very patriotic and for you Marines, you will recognize he is wearing the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. Gunny and I hit it off right away and, not surprisingly, his owner and Larry are also good friends. In fact, they were in Tennessee together a few weeks ago doing some bible studies (they used the book, Man Alive) as well as doing some fixer upper projects. Larry said the Man Alive study was great. Both he and his friend found much to apply to their lives. And, as a result, they saw God in most of the work projects they were doing.
For one of the projects they were using fast setting concrete. They used over a ton to be exact. The stuff is pretty amazing because it starts to set up and begins to harden in twenty minutes. It strengthens and can be put under pressure in just four hours. But, it usually takes about 28 days to completely cure and reach its full potential. As I thought about the Man Alive bible study, it made me think how with a real effort in the Bible study, God will show positive results almost immediately (just like the quick setting concrete). Lives can change and newly formed convictions can take hold faster than we thought possible. But, it takes time to become strong, cured, and able to withstand Satan chipping away at our relationships.
Of course the bible has a lot to say about His strengthening power. My favorites are:
Philippians 4:13 : I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
1Thessalonians 3:13: May He strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all His holy ones.
1 Peter 4:11 : If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all thins God may be praised through Jesus Christ.
To Him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
So I pray you all will keep pouring His Word into your lives, mixing it into your daily activities, and allow God to harden your hearts to sin. It does take time, but He will always show up for the job…how about you?
